Sweet Thing
Sweet moments, baked fresh.
Overview
Sweet Thing is a gourmet bakery specializing in cookies, cakes, and handcrafted treats. This freelance project focused on modernizing their digital presence while improving the end-to-end ordering experience.
I led the experience from structure through implementation—defining the site architecture, migrating from Squarespace to Shopify, and building the product and checkout systems. In collaboration with a visual designer, we evolved the brand expression to balance usability, flexibility, and a polished aesthetic.

Visual System & Brand Direction
This project was a collaboration with a visual designer, where the brand direction focused on a clean, playful aesthetic that highlights the bakery’s products.
My role centered on translating that visual direction into a functional system—ensuring consistency across templates, components, and interactions. I aligned the visual design with e-commerce needs, balancing aesthetic appeal with clarity, scalability, and ease of use.

Product Experience
I restructured the product experience to better support e-commerce—refining collection navigation and product detail pages to make offerings easier to browse and understand. This included clearer product groupings and flexible customization options.
On product detail pages, I improved accessibility with ADA-compliant text, added a size selector, and introduced expandable sections to organize detailed information. Product collections and recommendations were also implemented to encourage discovery and engagement—creating a scalable system that improves clarity today while supporting future growth.

Checkout & Ordering Flow
Building on the product experience, I enhance key moments in the purchasing flow by introducing delivery date selection, personalized gift messaging, and a more streamlined checkout. After evaluating Shopify integrations and finding them limiting, I implemented these features directly within the theme—adding custom inputs and logic tailored to both user and business needs. The result reduces friction and supports common behaviors like gifting and repeat purchases, making checkout more intuitive and reliable.
Platform & Implementation
I led the migration from Squarespace to Shopify, rebuilding the site on a more flexible and scalable e-commerce foundation. This included configuring product structures, customization logic, and backend systems to support ongoing growth and operational efficiency. By aligning backend setup with the front-end experience, the site is built to scale while remaining easy
to manage.

Impact & Outcome
The redesign improved usability and created a more seamless ordering experience, while positioning Sweet Thing for growth on Shopify. This project reflects my approach to connecting design, functionality, and business needs—transforming a visually appealing site into a more effective e-commerce platform.
